Celebrate the holiday season at Renton Civic Theatre with “Annie,” the beloved musical that proves the sun will come out tomorrow!
This heartwarming story – which runs from Dec. 5–21 – follows the journey of a determined young orphan as she finds adventure, family, and hope in the most unexpected places.
The production features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. Written in the 1970s, the musical was set during the Great Depression under President Franklin Roosevelt, and explores themes shaped by the political atmosphere of the era, the theater said. The story includes a cast of characters ranging from billionaires and criminals to secretaries and a president, and has been noted by critics for weaving in literary influences from “Oliver Twist” and “David Copperfield.”
“Annie” premiered on Broadway in 1977 and has since spawned several film adaptations. The beloved musical includes well known songs such as “It’s the Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow,” and is intended for audiences of all ages.
The runtime is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, not including intermission.
Performances will take place at Renton Civic Theatre at 507 S 3rd Street (map below).
