The City of Des Moines will begin construction next week on the Memorial Flag Triangle project, prompting weekday lane closures on Des Moines Memorial Drive, city officials announced.
The Memorial Flag Triangle is a civic beautification and safety enhancement project near a key intersection in Des Moines.
During construction starting Monday, Mar. 31, 2025, the northbound protected turn lane of Des Moines Memorial Drive next to the triangle will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
DAYTIME CLOSURE HOURS:
- Sunday–Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
NIGHTTIME CLOSURE HOURS:
- Sunday–Thursday: 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Saturday: 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m.
WEEKEND CLOSURE HOURS:
- Friday at 10:00 p.m. to Monday at 5:00 a.m.
“Please plan accordingly and drive safely as crews work on this improvement project,” the city said in a statement.
The city also provided the following visual diagram to help drivers understand the traffic adjustment.

No official end date has been released for construction, but city staff said efforts are being made to minimize disruption.
