Des Moines’ SeaLife Response, Rehabilitation, and Research (SR3) Mammal Rescue Center is inviting the community to step behind the fence and explore its rescue facility during a free Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet staff and volunteers, and learn about the organization’s efforts to rehabilitate injured and stranded marine mammals in the Pacific Northwest.

Each tour will last approximately 30 minutes and offer an inside look at SR3’s surgical room, fish kitchen, and medical care areas.

While live animal viewing will not be part of the experience, organizers say there will still be plenty to see and learn.

The event is family-friendly, with activities for children and an on-site store offering adoption kits, t-shirts, and other SR3 merchandise.

Pets are not allowed at the event, and visitors are encouraged to check SR3’s website for additional details.
