A 24-year-old man was shot in the neck Friday afternoon, June 19 following an argument in the parking lot of a Des Moines apartment complex, prompting a multiagency search for the suspect that continued into the evening.

Des Moines Police officers responded at about 4:22 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the Wintergreen Apartments in the 3000 block of South 220th Street (map below).

Police said that initial information indicated two adult men were involved in an argument in the apartment complex parking lot when one of the men was shot.

While officers were responding, the victim was located in the 23000 block of Pacific Highway South. Police said the 24-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck area and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Des Moines police, assisted by the Tukwila Police Department, Port of Seattle Police Department, K-9 teams and the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One helicopter, conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Based on initial information, investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
