Mt. Rainier High School opened its 2025 football season with a statement win Friday night, Sept. 5, defeating the Highline High Pirates 38-20 in the second annual “Waterfront Cup” at Highline Memorial Stadium.
The win gave Mt. Rainier momentum to start the season with a 1-0 record, while Highline looks to regroup at 0-1 heading into league play.
The Pirates battled to stay within reach but could not overcome Mt. Rainier’s balanced attack.
The game ended with the Rams ahead by three touchdowns.
Mt. Rainier plays in the 4A North Puget Sound League (NPSL) division, and the Pirates are in KingCo 3A Crest.
The Rams, representing Des Moines, and the Pirates, representing Burien, are longtime south King County rivals.
