[/caption] We’d like to welcome our latest Advertiser – Cascadia Herb’n Tea, a small, locally-owned herbal apothecary and tea shop tucked away in a cozy little space right next to the Seahurst Post Office at 2118 SW 152nd Street in Burien. Proprietor Vicki Winston not only sells herbs and teas, but she’s also a Bastyr Herbalist and Naturopathic Doctoral candidate who knows how to heal what ails you in a natural way. Come in, tell her what’s bothering you, and she’ll intelligently explain what might cure you. And not only that, but you can save $5 on any purchase over $20 with this great Coupon: [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="491" caption="Click image to print Coupon."][/caption] Originally a Boeing R&D scientist/engineer, Vicki retired as an international manager for Boeing. A major health crisis led her to look for alternative forms of health care to supplant some or all of the 15 prescriptions she was then managing. “Finding alternative care effective, I resolved to learn more and attended Bastyr University to obtain a biochemistry degree specializing in Herbal Science.,” she said. After retiring from Boeing, Vicki entered naturopathic medical school at Bastyr University. “I opened Cascadia Herb’n Tea to provide the community with locally-grown herbal options for healthcare,” she said. And talk about locally-grown – many of the herbs she sells are grown at her home, considered a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat, on Seahurst Beach. There she employs organic practices, and grows herbs on her roof, hillside, beachfront, and solarium. Cascadia Herb’n Tea also features an extensive collection of tea-making supplies, medicinal teas, and tisanes. Also found at Cascadia Herb’n Tea are a selection of natural health care products. These include Oregon’s Wild Harvest products, and an extensive collection of essential oils, diffusers, and locally crafted salves, lotions, creams, tinctures, and bath salts. Since opening last March, the shop’s inventory has doubled in size, adding an extensive collection of largely organic green, black and white teas, many of which are fair-trade certified. In fact, they now have over 70 varieties of herbal and regular tea, as well as:

  • Over 30 organic bulk spices
  • Over 45 essential oils
  • Over 50 different herbal tinctures; they’ll also custom formulate herbal tincture blends for a multitude of conditions including arthritis, sleep disorders, ear infections, and coughs and colds
Vicki recently added a lab, and they’re now producing their own herbal tinctures, salves, lip balms, and bath salts right in the shop. They fill prescriptions for Naturopaths and other holistic providers (HINT: try their best selling “Lavender Lips”). [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Cascadia's new lab allows them to produce their own herbal tinctures, salves, lip balms, and bath salts right in the shop."][/caption] And you can save more than just $5 too. “We offer the best deal around on supplements,” she added. “After a customer’s initial purchase on any Oregon’s Wild Harvest product, we will give a 20% discount on that product for all subsequent purchases. So that way, you pick the products you use the most often and get regular discounts when you need them.” Cascadia has a nice collection of tea supplies, including bright teapots and infusers. They also carry neti pots and essential oil diffusers as well. In February Vicki lectured at a local garden club, The Garden Gals, on the benefits and considerations of tea and other herbs. Cascadia also hosted the February meeting of the American Herbalist Guild, Washington Chapter. Vicki has been invited to teach at the Environmental Science Center and to guest lecture for other local clubs.
