The Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce announced this week the publication of their 2019 candidate questionnaires on their website, as well as the return of Candidates Night on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the DoubleTree in Southcenter. All candidates running for Port of Seattle and City Council positions for the municipalities the Chamber serves (Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and Tukwila) were invited in May to complete a Candidate Questionnaire. Thirteen candidates running for these positions chose to participate and return their questionnaire under the guidelines established and communicated. Those questionnaires are now available in their entirety as they were submitted on the Chamber’s website. “Thank you to the candidates that chose to participate.” Candidates were also invited to Candidates Night, and most have already confirmed their commitment to participate. This event and the formation of the Chamber’s questionnaire are organized by the volunteer Government Affairs Committee (GAC). The Chamber’s GAC focuses on the issues that matter most in our region and the communities we serve. The Seattle Southside Chamber is also part of the South Sound Chamber of Commerce Legislative Coalition (SSCCLC), whose collaborative advocacy efforts work to improve the business climate of our region. The work of the Government Affairs Committee allows the Chamber to serve as the voice of business at all levels of government to help advance the mission of the organization to build business success, advance our region, and help encourage and maintain a strong economic environment in Southwest King County. “We look forward to this opportunity to bring candidates and regional business leaders together to interact, strengthen ties, and forge new relationships,” said President/CEO of Seattle Southside Chamber, Andrea Reay. “In every election, the voice of the business community must be part of the conversation if we are to truly foster economic growth and enhance our collaborative culture. We hope you take the time to review the questionnaires submitted by the candidates and hopefully join us to meet them in person at Candidates Night.” This year the chamber invited candidates to fill out a short Questionnaire answering the following questions:
- What is your top priority policy issue you will focus on as an elected official?
- Please describe your past experience advocating for the business community?
- As an elected official what will you do to advocate for the business community?
- Where can we find out more about you and your campaign?
“Thank you to our host, the DoubleTree Southcenter, and our sponsors: The Boeing Company, Louise Strander, Crain Photography, and South King Media.” Space is limited at the event, so don’t forget to register early to reserve your place. Wow, disappointed in how few chose to respond – while many are not in a primary, so maybe felt no need to, why would someone seeking an elected office fail to participate in a venue that could give them a wider audience? Makes no sense.
