Skunk Works Robotics recruiting new high school students for 20th season, holding Open House Sept. 18

by EditorAugust 8, 2025August 8, 2025

Skunk Works Robotics, a competitive high school robotics team based in South King County, is inviting prospective students to an Open House event on Thursday, Sept. 18 at Highline College as it gears up for its 20th season.

The team competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), where students design, build and program 125-pound robots to perform specific tasks on a field about the size of a basketball court. Each January, a new game challenge and field layout are released, kicking off an intense build season that leads into regional and national competitions.

“FRC is a high-energy, hands-on way for students to gain real-world skills with guidance from professionals,” the team said in a statement.

Skunk Works is open to high school students and supported by mentors from engineering, programming, and business backgrounds.

Members can gain skills in CAD, programming, circuit board construction, 3D printing, data analytics, business presentations, and marketing.

Open House is Thursday, Sept. 18

The Open House will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025 at Highline College, where students and parents can meet team members and mentors, view past robots, and learn about the range of roles available — from engineering and programming to graphic design, business presentations and outreach coordination.

Interested students are asked to RSVP for the open house by filling out a form at:

More information is available on the team’s website at www.skunkworks1983.com.

The event is open to any high school student in the region looking to explore STEM opportunities through robotics.
