South King Fire will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Friday, Sept. 11, marking 25 years since the terrorist attacks that killed 2,977 people, including hundreds of first responders.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. at South King Fire Station 64 (map below), according to information from South King Fire, Federal Way Fire and the Des Moines Police Department.
The event will honor the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers and 55 military personnel who died in the attacks, organizers said.
Community members, families, firefighters, staff and local leaders are invited to attend. Guest speakers listed for the ceremony include:
- Des Moines Police Chief Ted Boe
- South King Fire Chief Woodey
- Federal Way Police Chief Andy Hwang
The ceremony is intended to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and recognize the service of first responders.
