A new summer program is bringing marine science to the shorelines of South King County, offering kids and families the chance to explore ocean conservation up close and hands-on — for free, including this Saturday, July 19, 2025.
The next event is scheduled for this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
SR3 (Sealife Response, Rehab and Research), the Pacific Northwest’s only dedicated marine animal hospital, has partnered with the MaST Center Aquarium to host the Marine Mammal Stewards program on Fridays and Saturdays through September at Des Moines Beach.
The program features a range of interactive experiences designed to educate and inspire young ocean advocates, like:
- Talk with real marine mammal experts
- Learn to use binoculars to spot seals, whales, and more
- Play fun, educational games
- Discover how to help protect local sea life
“It’s a great way to spark curiosity and get kids engaged in ocean conservation—while having fun outdoors,” organizers said.
The free events take place at Des Moines Beach Park, just steps from the SR3 and MaST marine facilities, creating an ideal backdrop for outdoor learning and ocean exploration.
Organizers say the program is a unique opportunity to cultivate curiosity and environmental stewardship in a hands-on, approachable way.
