Upgrades have been made to the ballfields at Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park, including new turf infields installed through a partnership with the national baseball organization Perfect Game, according to the latest Des Moines City Manager’s Report.
City officials said the resurfacing project was recently completed and the improved fields were showcased during games held at the park over the weekend.
The partnership with Perfect Game, described in the report as a nationally recognized baseball organization, included resurfacing the infield areas with turf designed to improve both playability and durability.
According to the City Manager’s Report, the upgrades are expected to support more consistent play and help reduce weather related cancellations.
City officials also said the improvements could bring additional activity and visitors to the community as tournaments and games are held at the park.
Game schedules for upcoming youth baseball tournaments at the park are available online here through Washington Baseball Tournaments.
