Another Saturday (Aug. 2, 2025), another rally sponsored by Seniors for the Constitution and Des Moines Indivisible.
By Noon, people had already started arriving, so it’s clear there is a need for this kind of peaceful protest.
While waiting for the crossing light after the event, one man said he’d been to rallies here before and felt the response from motorists was about the same: overwhelmingly positive, though his friend counted five middle fingers! Indeed, that has been the average!
Question: Why are you here today? Answer: So many reasons! Question: What are your top three? Her thoughtfull, immediate answer: To save democracy from slipping away bit by bit. To show people that you are not alone regardless of party. That we can all affect change some way or another.
“I’m from Tukwila. My friend from SeaTac recruited me and our friend from Normandy Park. My first protest in my life was the No Kings Day rally. Because we’re older, we can see what’s going on. Young people just aren’t tuned into it because they’ve always taken things for granted.”
“I live in Federal Way and I’ve been to many protests, including down in Olympia, and the participation in this one is very good. I started going 4-5 months ago. Question: Why are you doing it? Answer: You have to prioritize: this is our obligation to stand up and speak for what is morally right and wrong. When I was a teacher, that’s what I taught my kids- to live by that.”
“This is my grandson Logan. He’s a senior in high school, so he picked this sign. Two seniors together!”
Des Moines Food Bank board member Aggie Clark:
“When I started in 2017 there were 70 per day and now it’s well over 100. (They were grateful that attendees donated $350 and two bags of food today.)”
