Another HOT day at the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market last week and the crowds flowed all day. A lot of vendors said they had one of their best days this season. The market sales are up about 7% over last year and the Sunset Markets are up 20%. Thanks to our loyal followers, volunteers and sponsors who make this all possible. Stop by the Scholarship Bake Sale booth this Saturday. Business & Professional Women are baking up a summer storm to raise money for local scholarships. From cookies to pies there will be something for everyone. Stop by on the way to Blues and Brews and pick up a treat to enjoy with your cold beverage. The Rotary Club of Des Moines and Normandy Park is holding their annual Annual Poverty Bay Blues & Brews Festival this Saturday from Noon to 8pm. This is really a fun event and the proceeds benefit the Highline Music 4 Life program which puts instruments in the hands of kids who otherwise might not be able to afford them. The market’s people shuttle will run throughout the parking lots. Back by popular demand is the food truck NOSH. Their signature dish is their British Fish & Chips, which is now voted by ZAGAT and the Seattle Times as some of the very best in Seattle. Other Nosh menu items include a fabulous meatloaf sandwich, with roasted tomatoes and onions, served on a potato roll and a Caprese Baguette with house pulled mozzarella. With no item over $10, this truck has become a local hot spot for Seattle lunchers. As a special treat the Mount Rainier Pacific Islander Club will be on hand to perform some of their native dances. Ginger Lotulelei, their advisor, mentor and cheerleader, says this organization is making progress for a better education and helps achieve academic success for the students. Seniors, the market and the King Conservation District, with partner Sound Generations, are offering the HYDE Shuttle providing local door to door transportation to and from the market for seniors 55 and older and people with disabilities of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park, Burien and Sea-Tac.
