The Des Moines Farmers Market is pleased to announce that the WIC program will have a representative at the market every Saturday in July. You might have seen this sign displayed at various vendors and at the information booth. The rep will be there to answer any questions about the program and you will be able to apply for WIC benefits.

What is WIC?
  • WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
  • WIC improves health and nutrition status of pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under five. WIC provides health screening, nutrition education, nutrient-rich foods, breastfeeding support and referrals to other health and social services.
  • Almost half of all babies, one third of pregnant women, and one quarter of children under five in Washington State are on the WIC Program.
  • In Washington State, WIC reaches over 195,000 women, infants, and children in 205 clinics each month and provides services to over 315,000 individuals each year.
  • WIC is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and operated by the Washington State Department of Health.
The Des Moines Area Food Bank offers free lunches and activities for all school age children every Saturday at the market until school starts. Remember you are now able to ride the shuttle cart between all parking lots will attending the market.
