BREAKING NEWS: Wanolitto has just been informed that Wilson Fish will be starting at the Des Moines Waterfront Market this coming Saturday, Aug. 3! “Over the years our fish vendors have come and gone and we haven’t had one now for four years,” said Rikki Marohl, Market Manager. “We have been trying to find one and are really glad to have this top flight fresh, yes, “fresh” fish monger at our market.” They are a family-run business, and Steve Wilson is their fisherman. His sister Jania and her husband Gene Panida handle the business side of things. They catch primarily salmon, some halibut and other types. Their fishing methods are pretty simple – they do one at a time fishing, with no nets. All the fish are caught wild, using a barbless hook and line. They have to check for species and size. They fish in the saltwater because they don’t want to catch salmon once they get to fresh water because they stop eating because they’re going to spawn. Also check out their world famous smoked salmon and other delicious varieties.]]>
