With the cut of a ribbon, the Redondo Boardwalk in Des Moines was officially re-opened on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5.

The boardwalk has been open to the public for a month now since being completed in early October.

On hand were Sen. Karen Keiser and Mark Miloscia, State Reps. Mia Gregerson, Teri Hickel, Linda Kochmar and Tina Orwall, along with Washington State Transportation Improvement Board Executive Director Stevan Gorcester.

Also in attendance was new City Manager Michael Matthias, Mayor Matt Pina, and councilmembers Dave Kaplan, Vic Pennington and other dignitaries.

As we previously reported, the rebuilt boardwalk – which cost just over $4.7 million – consists of a concrete deck with wood stamp finish, stainless steel cable railing, and low level deck surface illumination, all while using the existing pile encapsulation.

With support from the Federal Highway Administration, Washington State Department of Commerce, Transportation Improvement Board and the City Council the Boardwalk has been restored and is recently re-opened to the public.
