Another ‘No Kings’ Rally?! Why?
So, what are you doing on Saturday, October 17, from Noon to 2 p.m.? Seniors for the Constitution and Des Moines Indivisible are once again partnering as co-hosts of No Kings IV at Big Catch Plaza (corner of Marine View Drive and 216th).
Why is another No Kings rally necessary? These nationwide events have brought together millions of Americans to tell the administration that the country belongs to us, the voters. And this rally is especially important now because, as NoKings.org states:
“Efforts to undermine trust in our elections and make it harder for people to be heard are happening across the country right now. Our democracy depends on every eligible voter having the freedom to participate without intimidation, interference, or barriers.”
We are urging everyone to VOTE EARLY. Washington ballots go out October 14 and you can now bring your completed ballot to a new, secure ballot box outside City Hall (21630 11th Ave. S). If you aren’t yet registered, you can do it at the rally, where representatives from the League of Women Voters will have a table.
You can also contribute to the Des Moines Area Food Bank, which has had a table at every rally since the first, way back in March 2025. Yes, we’ve been doing rallies every other Saturday for that long. It’s just another way we can give residents a chance to support one another, particularly those who are frightened of being targeted by ICE. Cash donations are preferred, so the food bank can select items that cater to our neighbors’ specific needs.
Water and ready-made signs will be available, or bring your own. Parking is limited, so consider car-pooling and parking on side streets. Stop by the plaza to greet the organizers, then find a spot along Marine View Drive to wave and display your sign.
