A man was wounded in a shooting early Sunday, Oct. 11, on Marine View Drive South in downtown Des Moines and taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, police said.
This is the second shooting in three weeks near this location; as we previously reported, on Sept. 20 a man was fatally shot nearby.
Des Moines officers responded around 1:43 a.m. Sunday morning to the 22300 block of Marine View Drive South (map below). They arrived within one minute and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the department’s latest statement.
The suspects fled before officers arrived, police said. The department did not release suspect descriptions or further details about what led to the shooting.
EDITOR’S NOTE: An emergency dispatch listing identified All Star Sports Bar as the response location. Management said the bar closed at 1:15 a.m., before the shooting, and that a review of footage from both recent incidents showed those involved were not its patrons. Management said employees use metal detector wands and pat down patrons as safety measures. “The safety of our customers and employees are our first priority,” management said in a statement, which also wished the victim a speedy recovery.

Police Seeking Tips
“This remains an active investigation,” the department said.

Maybe regular patrols past this trouble spot in our fair city at the bars closing time might be prudent?
