The City of Des Moines is inviting the public to the much-anticipated reopening of Cecil Powell Park, located at S. 250th Street and 13th Place S. (map below), this Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, starting at 11:30 a.m.

The celebration will mark the removal of construction fences and signals the near-completion of extensive park renovations.

The park received a new play structure, edging, safety surfacing, and a paved accessible walkway with accompanying furnishings.

“There are still a few finishing touches to be completed, but the fences will be down and the playground is ready for use,” officials said.

Families and children will find updated play structures and fresh landscaping designed to improve safety and overall visitor experience.

The reopening event will provide an opportunity for residents to explore the revamped facilities, meet with city officials, and enjoy a casual gathering in one of Des Moines’ beloved parks.

The renovations are part of the city’s broader efforts to enhance public spaces, ensuring that parks like Cecil Powell offer both safety and fun for local children and families.

The public is encouraged to attend, participate in the celebration, and offer their feedback on the improvements.

Cecil Powell Park has long been a community staple, and the city hopes that the updated facilities will continue to serve as a vital gathering spot for neighbors and friends.
