Des Moines Police detectives made an arrest related to a recent assault and robbery case on Monday night, Aug. 5, 2024.
As we previously reported, the male suspect assaulted a victim and stole their cell phone in the vicinity of the 22000 block of 6th Avenue S. on the morning of Sunday, July 21, 2024.
According to the victim’s partner, the assault took place that Sunday at 7:40 a.m. in front of a condo where the victim lived on 6th Ave S. in Des Moines.
Based on surveillance video footage, the suspect had been loitering and looking into the garage for about an hour prior to the assault.
Here’s more from the victim’s partner:
“The victim left his condo and made contact with the suspect at the condominium garage driveway. The suspect was upset, saying that he needed to talk to the manager. The victim informed the suspect that the condominium didn’t have a manager and asked if he could help him. The suspect then accused the victim of being an undercover policeman. He wanted to see the victim’s ID. The victim said no and the suspect hit him in the face. He continued to hit the victim. The victim fell backwards, hit the concrete and gashed his head. The suspect approached the victim and kicked him numerous times and stomped on him. The suspect took the victim’s keys and phone and travelled on the sidewalk into a neighboring yard and threw the keys and phone towards that house. The items were found later that morning. The victim got up and started back to the house, meeting the suspect again on the sidewalk. The suspect hit the victim again and then walked west on S. 220th Street towards 7th Ave S. The victim walked to the house and said to call 911. When I called 911, the operator said they had received numerous calls and the police were on the way. The victim was taken by ambulance to Valley Medical Center ER. The victim had numerous wounds and lacerations to the head requiring CT scans, stitches, a black eye, a broken rib, injured Kidney, and scrapes and bruises to the arms and legs. The police put up a multi-block perimeter in the Marina District, brought the K-9 unit, and flew drones over the area. The suspect was not found.
“On Sunday the police responded to the same condo building because a woman was found dead in a hallway. The police are investigating it.” [READ OUR COVERAGE HERE]
