A national day of protest known as “No Kings” will bring a local rally to Des Moines this Saturday, June 14, with demonstrators gathering from 1 to 3 p.m. at Big Catch Plaza (map below).
Organizers say the event is part of a coordinated nationwide movement pushing back against what they call increasing authoritarianism and political corruption from President Donald Trump and his allies.
The Des Moines event will include peaceful demonstrations and a food drive benefiting the Des Moines Area Food Bank.
Attendees are encouraged to bring shelf-stable food donations.
“A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action,” organizers said. “We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.”
The gathering will be held on mostly flat ground with accessible parking nearby. The event is open to all ages.
The “No Kings” movement positions itself as a response to what organizers describe as efforts to undermine democratic norms and institutions.
