Stop by market sponsor Seattle Southside Visitor Services booth for area information, maps, restaurant recommendations and free post cards and visitor guides. The Visitor Center staff will be on hand to let you know about the exciting upcoming events in our region. Have guests traveling from out of town and need ideas on how to entertain them? They can help! Here are the community groups for this week: Mount Rainer High School Dance Team will be holding a bake sale at their booth to raise funds for their activities. Mt Rainier Pool will be talking about the importance of kids learning to swim and about how water-based exercise is a great way for adults and seniors to remain active because their natural buoyancy reduces the stress on joints and bones. As always, they will be providing free tattoos depicting the pool logo. MRP also begin promotion of their first-ever Pumpkin Plunge set for Sunday, Oct. 26. Instead of kids having to trek to the pumpkin patch, they can come visit them where they will be tossing pumpkins into the pool (yes, they float) for the kids to retrieve. There will be pumpkin decorating stations, Halloween treats and entertainment, too. Admission will be $5 per person and they MUST preregister (so they can make sure each child gets a pumpkin). Look for him at the Boardwalk Bistro and remember to make a donation, as all the market’s musicians perform for free. The Des Moines Area Food Bank “Picnic in the Park” continues their free summer lunch program for all school age kids. If you would like to volunteer to help with this program, contact the Food Bank 206-878-2660. Look for them in the grassy area next to the marina office starting at noon.
