The first weekend-long lane reduction on State Route 99/Pacific Highway South in Des Moines starts Friday, Jan. 10, for curb and sidewalk improvements, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced.

WSDOT said its first four attempts to start this project were rained out in late 2024 and early 2025.

From 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, until 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, the right lane on southbound SR 99 will close between South 224th Street and just north of SR 516.

The intersection of SR 99 and South 226th Street also will close during the same times, and a signed detour will guide people around the work zone.

Lane closures also are planned from 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, until 5 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, on northbound and southbound SR 99 between South 216th and 224th streets for traffic signal work.

Throughout the weekend, our contractor will demolish existing curb ramps at the South 226th Street/SR 99 intersection and build new ones that meet updated Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

More than 60 curb ramps will be upgraded during this project, which also will repave two miles of SR 99 starting in spring 2025.
