Katherine Caffrey was officially sworn in on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 as the new City Manager for the City of Des Moines, bringing extensive experience and a fresh outlook to the role.

As we previously reported, Caffrey was unanimously selected as the city’s new City Manager at the Sept. 5 City Council meeting.

Caffrey was chosen from a pool of four final candidates, and was considered the most experienced of the finalists. She replaces Interim City Manager Tim George, who took over for Michael Matthias, who was removed by the council in November, 2023.

City officials expressed enthusiasm about Caffrey’s leadership and vision for Des Moines, noting that her background in municipal management and strategic planning will be instrumental in advancing the city’s goals.

Community members can learn more about her experience and future plans for Des Moines on the city’s website here.

In the coming weeks, the city will announce opportunities for residents to meet Caffrey and discuss her vision for the community.

“Please join us in welcoming Katherine to Des Moines — we look forward to a bright future ahead,” the city said in a statement.
